Yes, you heard it right! We are asking you to use oils even if you have oily skin. If you have oily skin, your skin will become oily a few hours after you wash it. You might be dealing with issues like acne, open pores and blackheads. And we are asking you to treat these conditions with oil!
The problem is that your skin is secreting too much oil. To combat this condition, if you wash your face often, it dries the outer layer of the skin. This tells the inner layers of the skin that they need to produce more oil as the outer layer is dry! Thus, the condition gets worse. Not to mention, using too much face wash and water washes away the good microbes on the surface of your skin. Using products that have alcohol compound this problem even more.
So, what can you do? Firstly, keep your skin clean. Use the double cleansing method and clean with a good oil based cleanser that is free of alcohol. Second, use a non comedogenic oil, like argan oil or jojoba oil, to nourish your skin. These oils lock moisture, nourish your skin and tell the layers deep within that enough oil has been produced and that it need not secrete any more oil. This balances oils production of the skin and helps it become 'normal' from 'oily'.
However, it is key to note that those with oily skin need to use non-comedogenic oils only. Oils like argan, jojoba and rosehip are good for you whereas oils like coconut, wheat germ and olive will surely give you a breakout. It is best to consult an expert or a formulator before you pick up an oil as an 'anti acne' solution.
